New Building Plans

Renovation Background and Needs:
The Gurdwara Sahib building is from the 1970's and in the last few years with the growth of the Sangat and requests for a wider variety of programs and services, the current facility has become overcrowded and is not meeting the needs of the Sangat.

For the last year the Gurdwara Sahib Sevadaars have been deliberating on the best way to proceed and after consultation with the Sangat, City Officials and other organizations, it was decided that the most cost effective approach is to extend the current building.

Renovation Project Stages:
Stage 1: Consultation with Sangat, community and professionals.
These consultations started in the Fall of 2008 and will conclude in July of 2009. The consultations included discussions with the Sangat, local community of Queensborough and professionals such as Artichtects and Designers. An interim deliervable of this process is a series of building renovation designs and sketches as outlined below. These sketches and designs will be adjusted if required based on final feedback

Stage 2: Finalizing layout and design
This process is planned from July 2009 to October 2009, in which all plans are finalized and submitted to the local authorities for approval.

Stage 3: Community Sevadaar Process
Once we know what is required and the renovation schedule is created. We'll be approaching Trades within the community to help with Labour to undertake this work. We are very fortunate that in the Lower Mainland of B.C. many members of the Sangat are involved in the Trades and any remaining work will be tendered.

Stage 4: Renovation
The renovation is scheduled for late 2009/early 2010 and will take eight to ten months to complete.

What you can do to help?
Everyone can take part in this process through one or more of the following ways:

  • Provide feedback on plans and design. This renovation is structured so that it takes care of the needs of the Sangat for the next 15 to 20 years or more. Your feedback is very valuable and is required.
  • Financial Support. The cost of this renovation will exceed $1 Million and even with the generous donation of Labour by local trades, the material costs will have to be borne by the Society. You or your family members can get together and make a general donation or and help sponsor a specific piece of the renovation such as the painting or carpeting. Just let us know and we will let you know the approximate costs of all materials.
  • Volunteering. In addition to Trades, general volunteers will be required for clean-up and ensuring that the Gurdwara can operate while the renovation plans take place. Just let us know when you can volunteer.

New Building Renovation Layouts and Designs
The following are layouts and designs of the new building plans. These have been created based on the consultation and will be modified if required at the end of Stage 1:
